Livorno's annual Effetto Venezia event takes place in the city's old Venezia district, every evening from 1-10 August 2008. The theme of the event in this 23rd year is La Poesia e  i Popoli (poetry and peoples) inspired by a sentiment of international understanding between people from different countries and cultures. Arts and crafts, music and dance, theatre and prose, canal trips, children's entertainment, al fresco dining, and lots lots more.

1st August - Opening Ceremony.
in Piazza della Repubblica at 11.30pm. The show, with fireworks, is dedicated to two 20th-century poets, Vladimir Majakovskij and Pier Paolo Pasolini, and will feature two great Italian actors, Carlo Monni and Andrea Cambi. Created and directed by Michelangelo Ricci.

Historical Parade from Piazza dei Domenicani to Porto Mediceo at 9pm.
The Pied Piper of Hamelin in Piazza del Luogo Pio at 9.30pm.
Live Music after midnight in the Fortezza Vecchia, Piazza Cavour, Via Ricasoli, Via dei Carabinieri and Viale Italia (Baracchina La Vela).
