A Beautiful Weekend in Livorno
My friend and I spent a smashing weekend in Livorno recently. Thanks to the Livorno Now website my friend and I were able to see much more of Livorno and appreciate it. The weather was great, bright and sunny and perfect for strolling along the canal in the "little Venice" district. This led to the seafront and a few drinks in Bar Curci. We purchased tickets for the following days game between AS Livorno and AC Milan(only 11 euros each) and after window shopping on the Via Grande we finished our day in the very friendly and welcoming Bar Civili drinking the famous Ponce(coffee, rum, lemon).
Cruise to Livorno
Dear Sarah,
Just thought I would let you know how much we enjoyed our visit to your part of the world. We decided to take a 4 hour excursion which went first to Puccini's house followed by a sail on Lago Massaciuccoli-then an hour or so in Pisa. Not long, but we managed to see the Baptistry and the Cathedral, as well as a cappuccino! It was a beautiful day, and we enjoyed everything. The house was fascinating and the lake was really peaceful- I now have some nice material for a bit of painting. The whole holiday was just right. We did our own exploring in Rome, having been given maps and advice over transport, and I definitely want to go back again for 2-3 days. Someone in Rome will have found my purse which I must have dropped on leaving a taxi, but despite containing my business card for our holiday cottage, no-one has contacted me to return the money or book a holiday! Can really recommend Thomson Celebration as a cruise ship. There was a lovely mix of generations onboard, with lots of folk who had had multiple holidays on that ship.Thankyou again for your help. Best wishes
Margaret
Our Day in Livorno
Rememberance in Livorno
In April 2008 my sisters and I took our mother back to the honeymoon home of our parents 23 Fiume. It was bitter sweet having lost our dad in 2006, but we loved every minute of it. Everything was as mom remembered it, from the laundry across the street, to the cafe on the corner. This was my first trip to Livorno, Italy and I enjoyed every moment, the food, the scenic ride into Pisa, the train to Florence the shopping, it was wonderful! Two days were not enough! I can not wait until I return.
The Gower Family
I have been contacted by a lady in England who is researching the Gower family. They lived in Livorno in the 19th century, possibly in what is now Via dei Gower (Quercianella/Chioma?). Anyone who has any knowledge of the family or their descendents, please get in touch.
