Pensiamo in Grande - A project inviting you to submit YOUR ideas for Livorno's future

Piazza GrandeStarting next Sunday, 7th February 2010, is the first phase in the project launched by the Comune di Livorno to gather ideas and proposals from Livorno's citizens regarding the planned redevelopment of the old city centre. The project has been named Pensiamo in Grande ('Let's think big!'), 'Grande' referring to the central Piazza Grande and Via Grande which form the main axis of the heart of Livorno.

The area in the spotlight is in fact the centre of Livorno - Via Grande, Piazza Grande, Largo Duomo, Via Pieroni, Via Cogorano, Via Franco, Via del Tempio, Piazza Guerrazzi, Piazza della Repubblica, Mercato Centrale, Piazza Cavallotti, and Piazza Garibaldi.

Ideas and proposals are welcome regarding street furniture, transport, culture, tourism and commerce. Plans are already in place to renew the pavements and porticos in Via Grande, and there are moves to improve parking facilities, street lighting, cycle paths, and the public transport network in central Livorno.

The project offers a rare opportunity for those of us who live here in Livorno to voice our opinions about what we would like to see improved in town. We all have a different perspective of our local area, so our opinions are of great value. Obviously, not all our proposals will be taken on board, but I still think we should take advantage of this innovative project and make ourselves heard!

The project is divided into several phases:

FEBRUARY 2010

• Le Giornate dell'Ascolto: 7th, 11th & 13th February. Get ready to express your ideas and proposals to the teams of interviewers who will be out and about in Livorno town centre
• Focus Groups: 15th-20th February. Discussion groups regarding the key themes in the project for the redevelopment of Livorno
• Caffé Creativo: 26th February. A meeting at Livorno's Libreria Gaia Scienza regarding the project so far (9pm)

APRIL 2010

• Overview of the proposals put forward (dates & details to be confirmed)

JUNE 2010

• Project results (dates & details to be confirmed)
