Livorno has an incredibly lively music scene covering all areas of music. There are music schools, choirs, classical groups, and many young local bands trying to make their mark, some of whom already have several cds under their belts. The problem for many of these young bands is finding places to perform, as that is one thing Livorno does seem to lack.
Zarastro is the title of the debut album by Mandrake, the five-piece band from Livorno, with lead singer and songwriter Giorgio Mannucci, Stella Sorgente on double bass, Asita Fathi on violin, Mauro La Mancusa on trumpet, guitar and piano, and Dario Gentili on drums and percussion.
This rather unusual role for Bobo - known for his caustic humour and laid back style - may have been cause for some doubts on the other side of the Livornese border, but judging by the audiences' (and the musicians') reaction during the two performances (in San Marcello Pistoiese and Poggio a Caiano), Bobo more than proved his talent as an all-round, and very funny entertainer.
Dare to Believe...
British singer songwriter Giles Foster, resident in Montenero, Livorno, has just released his first CD – Soul Contact - after many months of hard work. The CD has been produced by the local Percorsi Musicali recording studio, where it was arranged by Simone Ricci and Lorenzo Porciani, and recorded, mixed and mastered by Daniele Pistocchi.
