Livorno's Music Scene

Livorno has a lively music sceneLivorno has a lively music sceneLivorno has an incredibly lively music scene covering all areas of music. There are music schools, choirs, classical concerts, and many young local bands trying to make their mark, some of whom already have several cds under their belts. The problem for many of these young bands is finding places to perform, as that is one thing Livorno does seem to lack. Over the next few weeks I will be featuring as many of these bands as I can, as well as all the music venues, schools, choirs, forthcoming events, and music-related businesses currently working in Livorno. If there are any I don't mention that you know about, please let me know (sarah@litko.com).

I will be writing something about each of them as soon as I can gather enough information. Watch this space!

The Mascagni influence

Mascagni at his pianoMascagni at his pianoThe most illustrious Livornese composer is Pietro Mascagni, born in the city in 1863. His most famous work is the opera, La Cavalleria Rusticana which enjoyed enormous success both in Italy and abroad. Dedicated to Mascagni is the splendid seafront terrace, the Terrazza Mascagni and the Museo Mascagnano in Villa Maria.
