New Home for Livorno's American Market

From Piazza XX Settembre to the Port of Livorno

5 August 2009 American Market relocated to the Port of LivornoAmerican Market relocated to the Port of LivornoLivorno's American Market - Il Mercatino Americano - has just reopened in a brand new location inside the port, after nearly sixty years in Piazza XX Settembre. The market became popular after the opening of the US army base Camp Darby in nearby Tombolo (on the way to Pisa) and in the 70s was well-known throughout Italy as the place for army surplus gear and American jeans and food products.

Recently, many of the stalls in Piazza Venti had closed down and the market had gone into decline. So this new breath of life has probably come just in time.

The Hellman's mayonnaise and Heinz Baked Beans are still there too. Among these old favourites, there are also some interesting new stalls selling crafts, retro fashions and local produce.

Open from 9.30am-12.30pm and from 4-8pm Mon-Sat

Hi! I was just wondering

Hi! I was just wondering what the dates and times were for the American market.....

American Market Times

The new American Market seems to be working to shop hours, much as it used to in Piazza XX Settembre. This means from about 9.30am-12.30pm and 4-8pm, from Monday to Saturday (but will check if it opens on Monday mornings).
