Primary Schools

As far as hours are concerned, there are two systems currently operating in the Province of Livorno: the so-called modulo system, and the tempo pieno or full-time system. Pupils study the same programmes regardless of which system they attend.

Modulo

This generally operates six mornings a week, from Monday to Saturday, from about 8.30am to 1pm, exact times depending on individual schools. They may have some days where they also have to attend school in the afternoon. This is called a rientro.

Tempo Pieno

As the name indicates, the full-time primary school hours operate from about 8.30am to 4.30 pm, five days a week, from Monday to Friday. Pupils have lunch at school, for which families are charged a monthly rate.
