Summer 2008 - Four Months of Musical Events Coming Up in Livorno

Jazz, Rock, Pop, Classical, and Cabaret in the Fortezza Vecchia

The Stage at the Fortezza VecchiaThe Stage at the Fortezza VecchiaLivorno's Fortezza Vecchia has become the most important venue for musical events in Livorno during the summer, taking over from where The Cage Club left off at the end of May. But while the Cage Club stages predominantly rock and popular music, the four months of events at the Fortezza, from June to September, include a wide range of concerts and cabaret, from jazz to rock and classical music, and lots in between, to suit all tastes.

Renzo Arbore heads the bill

Heading the bill this summer will be the well-known Italian entertainer Renzo Arbore and his band, while other artists include local groups Carneigra, Indovena and Licantropi, and jazz musicians Michela Lombardi and Mauro Grossi.

Thursday Night is Jazz Night

Every Thursday night there will be a free jazz concert at the Fortezza Vecchia, starting with Michela Lombardi on June 5th. Sundays will instead be dedicated to classical music.

Music Festivals

Several music festivals will also take place during the summer at the Fortezza, including the national Italia Wave festival in July, a Latin American Festival in August, and the annual Brainstorming event in September. There will also be two evenings linked to the Puccini Festival at Torre del Lago, in this 150th anniversary year.

The events at the Fortezza Vecchia have been organised by Luca Menicagli and The Cage Club. See the What's On pages for more details of the events.
