In Italy the 15th August is synonymous with holidays and the seaside, but the origins of the Ferragosto holiday date back to ancient times.
It is hard to sum up what Effetto Venezia is all about. Over the years it has developed into a diversified combination of music, art, theatre, poetry, cabaret and crafts, with something to appeal to all ages and all tastes.
The Livorno Music Festival, organised by Vittorio Ceccanti, began in 2011. The event lasts for about two weeks from the last week in August to the first week in September. As well as offering a series of classical music concerts open to the public, the Festival also hosts masterclasses in a range of instruments and composition held each year by prominent figures in the music world.
The Premio Rotonda was founded in 1957 by Livornese artists Mario Borgiotti, Nedo Luschi, and Renzo Casali to promote art and sculpture. Every year more than 150 artists and sculptors take part in the competition which is held in the Ardenza district, in the pinewood at the Rotonda (by the sea).
