7 January 2008. The arrival of the Befana yesterday, both in Piazza delle Carrozze and Piazza della Repubblica, was met with rather damp enthusiasm due to the awful weather conditions, but that didn't put off the 'old' ladies! Both turned up smiling and generously waving their gifts, searching for children to give them to.
In Montenero the warm refuge of the local bar was found, while the ten-metre high stocking outside the funicular station
hung limply in the rain. In the centre of town the Befana just had to make do with an umbrella for shelter until Livorno's firemen whisked her away in fire brigade style on one of their vehicles.
