12th July 2014 marks 130 years since the birth of artist Amedeo Modigliani. He was born, in fact, in 1884 at what was then number 8 Via della Barriera Maremmana (now 38 Via Roma), here in Livorno.
To celebrate the date, Modigliani's birthplace will be open to the public on 12th July 2014 from 10am to 1pm, with guided tours in the evening at 6pm, 7pm, 8pm, 9pm, and 10pm. At 7pm there will be a toast to Modigliani with red wine and Livorno's favourite street food, Cinque e Cinque, and at 9pm there will be a special birthday cake and champagne (to book tel. +(39) 3208887044). The house will also be open to visitors daily (except 15th August) throughout the summer from 10am-12pm. Entrance €5
The blog dedicated to Modigliani's birthplace (see this link) (currently in Italian only) gives more details and a map of how to get there.
Also starting on Saturday 12th July 2014 is the important photographic exhibition by Luca Dal Canto dedicated to Modigliani's life in Livorno and Paris, I Luoghi di Modigliani (see this link for details).
Later this year (3rd October 2014-15 February 2015) there will be a major exhibition of Amedeo Modigliani's work, sadly not in Livorno, but in nearby Pisa, at the Palazzo Blu
