FAI Census Results: Our Dutch-German Church is 9th overall and No. 1 in Tuscany!

Dutch-German Church, Scali Olandesi, Livorno Dutch-German Church, Scali Olandesi, Livorno

15th February 2013 The long wait is finally over! Yesterday, 14th February, the Fondo Ambiente Italiano (FAI) published the official results of the 2012 "Places I Love" census which took place between May and November last year (see previous article).

And the great news is that Livorno's Dutch-German Church has come 9th in the final general ranking, having obtained 23,685 votes. Many hundreds of sites and monuments throughout Italy were voted for. What's more, the church is in an admirable first place both in the ranking for Tuscany, and regarding the number of votes from abroad. The latter is particularly significant considering that this is the first time the census has been extended to countries outside Italy, and also because the Church represents one of the historic "nations" that contributed to the development of Livorno. It also came second in the category of Churches.

Although it is not clear yet whether the Dutch-German Church will receive any funding from the FAI and Banca Intesa SanPaolo, what is certain is that this is a victory for Livorno! The city has never seen such an important result in the history of the FAI "I Luoghi del Cuore" census, and the fate of this historic building can certainly not be ignored after this.
