An Anglo-Livornese Collaboration
13 June 2008 Giles Foster has lived and worked in Livorno for longer than he probably cares to remember, but he is originally from Salisbury in England and comes from a family of musicians. He had his first experience of Rock music at the age of 8, when his father first brought a TV home. Ever since then he has been passionate about music, singing and playing the acoustic guitar in his own band, and writing his own songs which communicate his great love of life.
He believes his music should attempt to follow in the footsteps of those who have given this popular art-form something that transcends time and fashion, songs each with particular moods and energy, offering a very personal communication with each individual listener, breathing a very strong, encouraging life-force, whatever their subject-matter.
As Giles himself says, "I take my hat off, above all, to The Rolling Stones, who always provide a never-failing source of encouragement… and, likewise to David Bowie, John Mellencamp and Macy Gray, to name just a few".
After months of very hard work Giles' first CD, Soul Contact, is due out shortly. It contains 11 new original songs written over the last three years. It is the result of a collaboration between Giles and the Percorsi Musicali recording studio in Livorno (Tuscany) who have believed in this project right from the beginning, providing studio musicians, song-arrangements, recording expertise and technical support.
Watch out for forthcoming gigs on the What's On pages on Livorno Now.
So listen out for Giles' music over the next few months, and let's hope the project has a fruitful outcome.
