Holland America's Eurodam Makes its First Call to the Port of Livorno

As is traditional on these occasions, the local authorities went on board to welcome the Captain and his crew, to exchange plaques and to express full cooperation on this and future visits.

At the ceremony were Chester (uk) -born Captain Jonathon Mercer, Sergio Senesi - Owner of Cemar Agency Network, Angelica Tattanelli - Port Agent, Fiorenzo Milani and Giovanni Battista Molinari - for the Port Pilots of Livorno, Giovanni Spadoni - PortoLivorno 2000, Giorgio and Alessio Miovich - Port Security, and Roberto Lippi - Port Authority of Livorno.

Captain Mercer recounted how he had last been in Livorno 40 years ago when he was an apprentice on a ship carrying cowhides. He said he would never have believed that ships would have become so huge!

Holland America's Eurodam in the Port of Livorno Holland America's Eurodam in the Port of Livorno The ship, MS Eurodam, was christened in 2008 by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and made its maiden voyage in July of the same year. It carries 2104 passengers and is so far the largest Holland American ship. The sister ship, the Nieuw Amsterdam, is due to be launched later this year.
