If you are planning to travel on an Italian train and have reduced mobility, it is possible to arrange special assistance to get on and off the train. This is a free service, available in 266 stations throughout Italy, but it has to be booked at least 24 hours in advance and passengers need to know the train they wish to catch to arrange assistance.
The service can be arranged by telephone or by email. There is a freephone number to ring from a landline, if you are in Italy: 800906060. Alternatively phone +39 06 47308579 if you cannot access the freephone number. Please note that staff do not often speak good English.
The email address to write to for trains leaving and arriving in Livorno is email@example.com (which also covers Florence and Pisa stations). You need to indicate the date and train you wish to travel on, or an approximate time of travel. If you are unable to transfer to a train seat, please note that not all trains are equipped with special wheelchair spaces. The Italian Railways staff will let you know which trains are suitable for you.
Once you have booked the service, you will get a confirmation email or a text message (Italian mobile phones only).
On the day of travel, you should report to the station ticket office half an hour before the train departure time.
