If you are looking for a new and original venue for a conference or an important business meeting in Europe, Livorno might just be the ideal place. Its situation makes it easy to get to, either via Tuscany's most important airport just 12 miles north in Pisa (Galileo Galilei Airport), or via motorway and rail connections from the north of Italy and the rest of northern Europe. It is, of course, also one of the most important ports in the Western Mediterranean, and is now the home to leading luxury yacht builders, Benetti.
Hotels in Livorno offering conference and meeting facilities include MAX hotel (close to the railway station), the Grand Hotel Palazzo (on the seafront), and the Rex Hotel (overlooking the sea). And from an economic point of view they are bound to be a better option than many of their counterparts in better known, but more expensive cities.
For more informal get-togethers when the day's business is over, Livorno offers a wide range of very good restaurants, many of which serve excellent local fish dishes. And when a break is required during a congress lasting several days, excursions can easily be organised to the wine producing areas to the south of Livorno around Bolgheri, to one of the medieval towns within the province of Livorno, or to the cultural centres of Florence or Pisa, to name but a few possibilities. Being on the coast, of course, also means that a dip in the Tyrrhenian sea is always a convenient and enticing possibility at the right time of the year, and in Livorno this can often be from May right through to October.
Livorno as a venue for a business event has a great deal to offer, much more than you might expect.
