Seemingly unrelated, Livorno's most famous composer Pietro Mascagni and Argentina's most popular dance form actually have an interesting link. Mascagni's operas were greatly acclaimed in Argentina, and it was Buenos Aires that he chose as the venue for the debut performance of his Isabeau in 1911. In the same year, as a mark of respect for the Italian musician, one of the great composers of tango music, Angel Villoldo, wrote a tango entitled Don Pedro especially for him.
This evening of music and conversation will explore this relationship between Mascagni and the Tango of Argentina.
Friday 26th June 2015, Grand Hotel Palazzo (Sala Marconi), 8.45pm. Tickets can be purchased directly at the hotel on the night, from 7.45pm (10 euros).
