Unfortunately we were the restaurant’s only customers on this cold January night. Luckily there was music playing and we were made to feel welcome by our two hosts.
We each had an antipasto and a pasta dish (except for Carol who went for a steak). Among the dishes we chose were:
Gamberoni grattinati lardellati (king prawns au gratin with lardo),
ravioli agli amici (with fish),
pappardelle al gambero rosso con rum ambrato (broad ribbon pasta with crayfish and amber rum)
tiramisu with Baileys (good but a little too cold, and not enough Baileys for our tastes!),
Sformatino di Cioccolato - hot chocolate centred pudding which looked and tasted wonderful
Sformatino di Pere con cioccolato - pear and chocolate pudding, a classic done well.
Wine: IGT Rosso di Toscana Da Re, Vini Renieri, San Gimignano
Atmosphere & Deco: 3.5
Service & Cordiality: 4.5
Value for money: 3.5
Comments: nice table settings, eclectic decor (no real theme), a little cold, and the reel of background music was repeated (Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water I can just about stand ONCE in an evening!).
Il Conto: 31 euros a head (the huge 800g steak, which we all ate some of, cost 18 euros on its own).
