Seventy years ago, on 5th May 1949, the celebrated Spanish guitarist Andrés Segovia gave a concert at the Dutch-German Church of Livorno. Already world-famous at the time, a year later Segovia began his masterclasses in classical guitar at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, which he continued until 1963. One of his pupils was the Livornese guitarist Oscar Ghiglia (from 1958-1963), grandson of the Post-Macchiaioli artist of the same name, who later took over the teaching of the masterclass from Segovia.
On Friday 18th October, at 4pm, the Accademia degli Avvalorati association will place a plaque at the Dutch Church to commemorate this event, while guitarist Michele Greci will perform two pieces, in anticipation of a full concert at the Museo di Storia Naturale del Mediterraneo in the evening at 9.15pm. The event has been organised in collaboration with the Congregazione Olandese-Alemanna di Livorno, the Livorno delle Nazioni cultural association, and the Livorno State Archives.
