Perla Galatolo, 13, and Sara Gucciardo, 14, both from Livorno, recently excelled in the martial art of karate at the Italian WTKA Championships held in Rimini last month (May 2013). The girls were competing for Livorno's Sport Combat Club and won the WTKA Absolute Italian Champions title in the girls' under-17 team Kata event.
The girls are not new to winning titles. Last year Sara won a national title for individual Kata, while Perla came first in the Kumite event, once again in Rimini.
Karate has brought Perla and Sara together in more than one way. They both attend the Scuola Media Statale Michelangelo school and have much in common outside school as well.
They can now look forward to the international karate championships that will take place in November 2013 during the martial arts extravaganza Festival dell'Oriente in Carrara. They certainly stand a good chance of continuing their current success and adding yet more titles to their belts! Good luck girls!
