The Spazio Zero Association was set up in 2002 by a group of musicians. Thanks to Giancarlo Sacripanti (Atelier del Teatro), the group was able to make use of the council-owned building in Via degli Asili 45 where they created spaces for music courses, recording studios and rehearsal rooms for Livorno's musicians.
The association became a focal point for Livorno's music scene, producing albums, creating (in association with ARCI Livorno) the Cacciuk Orchestra, the first (and only) multi-ethnic musical group in Livorno, offering affordable music lessons, small-scale festivals and contributing to the cultural and social development of one of Livorno's key districts - Borgo dei Cappuccini.
Since it was founded, the Spazio Zero association has organised collective workshops at the Teatro Mascagni (in association with The Cage), and music festivals suce as the Axè Jazz Fest, and the Onda su Onda Festival in San Vincenzo. It has also made recordings of various musical genres, by groups from all over Italy, including the latest album by Bobo Rondelli, due to be released in 2011.
The members of Spazio Zero are among some of Italy's most accomplished musicians, many of whom come from Livorno. Others have come to Livorno, drawn by the city's celebrated music scene. The members are:
